San Francisco as It Is, Being Gleanings from The Picayune 1850-1852

Georgetown CA: The Talisman Press, 1964. Hardcover. [Extra-illustrated textblock mistakenly trade-bound?]: 285p., find 16 reproductions on coated inserted stock (as called for on Contents page) plus a doublespread map (on rear endsheets) plus a rubricated doublespread titlepage view; hardbound in 11x8 clothbacked boards with printed paper spine label and dust jacket; a colophon states that item in hand is no.57 of 75 specially "bound, boxed and extra-illustrated" copies and is signed and numbered in the author's holograph. There are two problems: dj was cut too large (by binder, by an eighth inch) and is somewhat edgeworn along top margin; also, a lengthy bookseller's pencilled note (not our own) claims that the Talisman binder installed the special text in a run of trade casings limited to one thousand copies. Whatever; it's a nice copy, it is signed and numbered.
