The Holocaust Odyssey of Daniel Bennahmias, Sonderkommando. With an Introduction by Steven B. Bowman

Tuscaloosa / London: The University of Alabama Press, 1993. HARDCOVER edition: xxviii, 151p., illustrated with a number of uncommon b&w site photographs, liberation photos, and a diagrammatic map. A hardbound book, 8.5x5.5 inch cloth boards titled silver, in glossy photographic dust jacket; a sound unblemished copy, in fact as new. Judaic studies series, Leon Weinberger, general editor.

As a Greek national, Bennahmias' story is unusual; he spoke neither German nor Yiddish and suffered more than others from the northern European cold; these perhaps are amongst the reasons Auschwitz overseers chose him for gas chamber and crematoria work. Writer Rebecca Fromer worked with the elderly Bennahmias three years, gently reviving his memories.
