The Tragedie of Iulius Caesar [Julius Caesar]. Pictures designed and cut by Mary Grabhorn

San Francisco: The Grabhorn Press, 1954. Hardcover. Unpaginated, letterpress in "INKVNABVLA" type (substantial all-caps; personae rubricated throughout, very tasking production detailing), a 15x10 inch folio with scarlet morocco spine titled gilt, over deep-black paper over boards stamped in colors with the Grabhorn dolphin. Mary's plates are brilliant; the leather of the spine is brilliant and bright; ambitious presswork; must be one of the finest productions of this house. Present is the original dust-catcher jacket of white laid-lined paper, this is toned and edgeworn; also present, and less welcome, is a newsclipping of the period, Joseph Henry Jackson's column on the book world, a third of his text on the book at hand, very enthusiastic. Perhaps rag paperstock is resistant to newsprint offsetting, at any rate the enclosing blanks (clip was laid in at the rear) are only faintly affected; clipping now protected in a mylar envelope. Fine copy. Fourth in the Grabhorn Shakespeare line.
