Statement Regarding Early California Experiences; Edited, with a Biography, by Allan R. Ottley

Sacramento: Sacramento Book Collectors Club, 1943. Hardcover. xii, 160p., several facsimile illustrations and a b&w portrait, titlepage and two initials are rubricated and accompanied by very capable line drawings reproduced in purple. A lengthy colophon describes the presswork for this reprint as "a class project in fine printing," eight students named, work consistently excellent (but bookbinding done professionally by the Sacramento firm of Silvius & Schoenbackler). Hardbound in 9.5x6 inch cloth boards with spine titling gilt, foredge deckled, one of 160 printed. Spine gilt is dim, endsheets mildly toned. Biographer Ottley has inscribed and signed the ffep (in 1985). A clean, sound, very good copy. Publication no.2.

Abridged info from preface: Sutter Jr was the eldest son of the celebrated Captain Sutter; he managed family properties during 1848-1851 and bungled badly. Charging that he had been "drugged and swindled," he wrote this Statement, "here printed for the first time."
