[66]p., decorated with fullpage initial letters and hand-colored marginal devices (on extra-wide margins) throughout, reflecting Dean's very personal touch, and inspiredly handset: his verso printblocks are 4.5 inches wide but recto text is printed 3.7 with running sidebar titling (instead of a "running head") that fills out the recto printblock to match verso. Hardbound in 12x8.5 inch papered boards (ocean-wave motif) with moss-green openweave cloth backstrip and green-grey printed spine label. Fine copy, one of only 200.
Hammond comments: "one of the liveliest and most interesting [diaries] that has come to our attention. It is regrettable that he did not continue his daily log after the ship passed Cape Horn.."
