Outcry! from occupied Berkeley

Berkeley: UC-Berkeley Radical Student Union, 1969. Newspaper. 8p., folded tabloid, illus., two small chips at spine, small wet stain at top of spinefold, pages evenly toned, else very good.

Front page features collage of photos of signs, sheriff deputy with gas mask on, and long-haired kid climbing a pole sporting People's Park sign. Headline: "Local law enforcement officers shotgunned dozens of Berkeley citizens." Contemporary partisan reporting and editorializing in defense of the local struggle for People's Park, a vacant parcel of land in Berkeley on which the University proposed to build a soccer field. Centerspread is large poster depicting protesters erecting a small tree, ala the iconic photo of Marines erected the American flag on Iwo Jima. Includes detailed chronology of events from May 10 to 17th, 1969. Typesetting and production apparently furnished by the Berkeley Barb.
