Hardcover. 379p., glazed cream paperstock throughout. 8x10.75 inches, introductory note, foreword, the publishers, summary of works, index, bibliography, list of subscribers, profusely illustrated with b&w photos and plates illustrating the instruments. The first edition, #474 of 1400 copies in decorated red cloth with titles over gilt and black panels; has a small bump affecting lower corner of cover and (faintly) most of the textblock leaves; in a good original slipcase with splitting to edges and mild evidence of strengthening of bump. A personal inscription signed by the author is the only marking.
