John Holmes Jenkins, one-time president of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, was found dead after a scandal involving forged historical documents. He was ruled a suicide although he was shot in the back of the head and no gun was found. See Calvin Trillin's "Knowing Johnny Jenkins" in The New Yorker, October 30, 1989, p. 79. All reference to the scandal has been scrubbed from his Wikipedia entry!
