Higginson, militant abolitionist, John Brown's financier, and commander of the African American Massachusetts 55th Regiment during the Civil War, describes in detail Garbriel's, Vesey's, and Turner's slave rebellions, as well as slave rebellions in Jamaica and Surinam. He lists his sources for these narratives in an appendix.
