Takes place during Christmas, a time of stress indeed, and one or several characters are Jewish. Strong dialogue; "an actors' play." Author explains that "Hagar's Children is the result of my experience as a staff member at a home for emotionally disturbed teenagers;" he makes a case for the interludes of song, which "early readers had disparaged," but proved in performance to have tremendous power, "one of the many surprises that awaited us as we rediscovered the script in rehersals"
