Nancy Cunard: brave poet, indomitable rebel, 1896-1965

Philadelphia: Chilton Book Company, 1968. Hardcover. [xxii], 383p. + 8p. photos, Some soiling/darkening to top and bottom edge of cloth, else very good first edition purple boards in shelfworn dust jacket. Brief prologue by Langston Hughes.

This tribute to Cunard---well-described by the book's subtitle---combines her own prose and poetry with paeans from those she befriended and influenced. Langston Hughes provided a one-page prologue; considerable space is devoted to her support of African American struggles (not least, underwriting and compiling the hugely influential and beautiful book production "Negro Anthology") during the 1930s as well as on the Spanish Civil War.
