"A century ago, Southern Pacific photographer Howard Clinton Tibbitts made pictures of a high-altitude portion of the railroad track from the California-Nevada boundary to the west towards Sacramento, There, along Emigrant Trail in Donner Pass, in the deep of winter in the 1890s, Tibbitts documented specially-equipped snow-clearing locomotives and other machinery.... Some of the photos were published in Camera Craft magazine in October 1900.
