Los Angeles: the author as Rendell Publications, 1966. Unpaginated preliminaries, 77p., two photoillustrations from the Hearings & Exhibits, 2p. reorder forms; reproduced from typescript standard leaves (11 x 8.5 inches) comb-bound with decorated b&w cardstock covers, possibly a first edition (see annotation below). Mild edgewear and handling soil, paperstock is slightly browned, blank back wrap is irregularly touched with offset browning. Not a bad copy, the comb by the way entirely intact.
A pencilled note on title leaf states "orig ed. in red cover," this is black. If the penciller is correct, we have here a later issue. But dealer Andy Winiarczyk, per collector Jim Spencer, says he "has never seen a copy of this book with a red cover." Mark Lane's introduction shrewdly suggests that Marcus' is the type of research victory to come, that more and more crucial details will get definitively nailed down. Approving blurbs inside from Sylvia Meagher, Penn Jones, Marjorie Field, Salandria, Weisberg.
