A prison bookshelf thirty book reviews [foreword by Joseph Henry Jackson]

San Quentin: Vocational Print Shop, 1949. vii, 118p., semicoated Indiapaper stock, professional-quality production design and printing, staplebound textblock in 8.25 x 6.25 inch wraps printed two colors and ruled in blind, with clerical edges; --these a little crimped with a quarter-inch tear. Otherwise, faint browning and handling.

Reviewer "G.S.H." was Gene Hollis, veteran SQ journalist-in-residence. His work is opinionated --magistral if you like: Tennessee Williams' in Streetcar Named Desire (he quips) "ruffles Normality among Neurotics of Elysian Fields." Also find his considerations of the Isherwood-edited Vedanta for the Western World, Dante, Kafka, and the Chicago list of "great books," which list he pooh-poohs.
