Otherwise a near-fine copy of the first edition in terracotta boards and black cloth backstrip lettered in bright gilt.

Hansberry's death in 1965 at the age of 34 deprived the American theater of its most important African American playwright. "Les Blancs" "What Use Are Flowers" & "The Drinking Gourd" which was commissioned but never produced by NBC. Nemiroff had been Hansberry's husband; his extensive notes detail the plays' contexts, including the controversy surrounding NBC's decision not to produce her work.
