The Santana case; tragedy of a Puerto Rican youth

New York: Pioneer Publishers, 1957. 18p., 5.5x8.5 inches, illustrations, photos, in stapled pictorial wraps; paper slightly browned, terminal leaf (back cover) is laced with silverfishing round the margins (through and through!) not affecting text, hence a good-only copy.

Trotskyist defense of Frank "Tarzan" Santana, a member of the Navahos gang in New York who had been jailed for killing someone mistaken for a member of a rival Italian gang. The pamphlet discusses discrimination against Puerto Rican immigrants and argues that Santana and his friends had to carry a gun for self-protection; states that the shooting was an accident as Santana tried to pull the gun away from a friend. The author, Cowley, later founded UNION Wage under the name of Joyce Maupin.
