According to an article in the June 26, 1958 New York Times (p. 16), the Carpenters' Union paid Raddock $310,000 to write this "portrait" which, according to author Robert A. Christie, extensively plagiarized his book "Empire in wood, a History of the Carpenters Union" (Ithaca, 1954), as well as other works.
