Possibly the first novel published in America to show homosexuals in a positive light.
Brown was born in Otsego, MI and bummed around France and the US. His first poem was published in The Dial in 1926. He ended up establishing a puppet theatre in Los Angeles where such notables as Elsa Lanchester performed. He was also a songwriter (Bette Midler performed one of his songs at an AIDS benefit).
