Edinburgh & London: Adam & Charles Black, 1891. Hardcover. xxii, 282, folded aerial view, ads, xiv, 316p., a near-fine set. Numerous steel-engraved illustrations and vignettes as called for. Hardbound in 10x7.5 inch massive bevelled cloth boards titled gilt and black with device gilt, top edges gilded; top and bottom rims a little crimped, the word "Memorial" on v.2 faintly scratched, mildest wear to corners. The oddest fault is in endsheet paperstock, binder chose acidic paper for both and both are shockingly toned (all other materials alkaline and in very good shape); unobtrusive ownership legends, a very good set.
Author Wilson, after first issue of these Memorials in the 1840s, for nearly fifty more years collected materials for this second edition; intervening years saw a number of pirated copies as well as reprints of the first.
