These neckerchiefs were worn by Black Bloc demonstrators in Quebec in 2001, as well as at some other contemporary Black Bloc appearances. There are various rumors about these neckerchiefs circulating on the net and in a number of articles and books, such as that they were designed by an elderly Situationist, or that they were sewn by Argentinian women who had taken over their own factory. As far as we know such claims are all apocryphal, and these were most likely produced in a more routine way by some anonymous anarchist group.
