The groups involved were led by Marlene Dixon, best known as the founder of the Democratic Workers Party. The DWP had a significant base at General Hospital among the doctors and staff. The DWP dissolved itself in the late 1980s, after discovering that not only was Dixon often drunk, she was trying to get a university teaching job in Bulgaria.
