[Letter discussing the design of a New Chapel]

Leatherhead: the author, 1813. Letter. 7x9 inch sheet with handwritten letter taking up both sides, fold-creased, upper half of recto dust-soiled. Above the signature on the verso are notes by a 19th century collector listing Dallaway's accomplishments.

Dallaway was secretary to the Earl Marshal and the vicar of Letherhead in Surrey. He wrote a history of western Surrey which was published two years after this note. The recipient is unclear, but would have been someone involved in the design of a new chapel. "Dear Sir, I am obliged by your kind offer of replying to any queries concerning the New Chapel, and agree with you, that much trouble may be spared to you, by making them specifically. The architecture of any other of the parochial churches you well know, will not detain me long. I therefore wish to bear testimony to the credit you have merited for the design + execution of this new monument of the piety of the present age..." Goes on to ask several questions about the plans and their cost.
