Philadelphia: David McKay, 1884. Hardcover. 404p., textblock filled out from page 383 with "Annex, Sands at Seventy" copyrighted 1888 (continuous pagination); mustard-yellow cloth gilt, grey endsheets, a steel-engraved tissue-guarded portrait by Samuel Hollyer is inserted after page 28 (hat, shirt, hand on hip), top-edge-gilt, untrimmed or deckled fore-edge. The spine titling is a trifle dim, the heavy deckle has picked up a lot of dust and toning, front hinge is cracked between copyright and contents pages but holding well enough, signatures are lightly-shaken but holding, case-binding is shelfworn with crimping at head and tail, minute fray at corner-tips, a good copy with neat ownership legend on the free endpaper dated 1956 and signs of an earlier name bleached out, affecting pastedown.
