The Socialist [eight issues]

New York: Socialist Educational Society, 1929-1937. Newsletter. Eight issues of the 8-page, 8.5x11 inch newsletter, vol. 1 nos. 1-6 and vol. 2 nos. 1 and 2. (At least one later issue was published in 1938, so this run is incomplete). Vol. 1 nos. 2-6 are on acidic paper, now heavily toned and brittle, with some edge chips, text all intact; the last issue is unevenly toned.

There was a seven year gap between the final issue of volume 1 and the beginning of volume 2, at which point the issuing entity was called the Workers Socialist Party. The first issue lays out the reasons for "What? Another paper!!!???" It lambasts the Left for infighting and ineffectiveness, giving as an example the defense of Sacco and Vanzetti. "From first to last, those most active in trying to defend these men, could not agree. The anarchists fought with the 'Socialists,' the communist contortionists fought both and each other, and with themselves - contortionists find this easy - , the liberal intelligenciaw [sic] added to the din, and what a solidarity THAT was!"
