New York: [variously:] H. Greeley; Greeley & McElrath; The New York Tribune, 1868. Hardcover. Variously paginated, about 1,000 pages together. Complete sans ads. Hardbound casebindings in period pressed calf over marbled 7.5x5 inch boards, all edges tinted, marbled endsheets, no ownership or any other markings in the text. Spine of v.I has legible titling gilt; spine of v.II has been replaced with wide black adhesive tape, ugly but effective. Boards are rubbed and show card. All hinges and joints in working condition, endsheets presentable (front hinge of v.II may have been strengthened, we see a partial split), title page of v.II is taped in with old document tape, textblocks are sound. A perfectly useable set. NB: Binder has removed all advertising leaves from the Tribune issues; Greeley issues may have had none.
