San Francisco: Self-published by the author, 1867. 10x16 inch sheet folded to 8x10 inches with further fold creases indicating previous folding for mailing, printed on the first page with script-type letter dated May 25, 1867 mailed from the artist's studio at 615 Sacramento St. and signed in facsimile by the artist, minor wear, two rectangular holes excised with razor or blade (not affecting text) likely where the letter was sealed with wax or some other substance, some toned offsetting and foxing.
Introductory letter from the Mexican-born artist who studied the Masters in Rome after graduating from Academy of San Carlos. He specialized in allegorical religious paintings, nudes and reproductions of Old Masters. He moved to SF in the mid 1860s and then on to New York in 1873.
