London: Heath Cranton Limited, 1932. Hardcover. 351p., hardbound first edition in black cloth boards lettered white within a white border. A very nice copy, lacking the dust jacket, that is signed, warmly inscribed and datelined San Francisco December '32 by the Mississippi-born author. Novel of a southern-born child of a white lawyer and 'mulatto' woman who tries to pass for white, with tragic consequences, these being murder, confession and execution. FYI, the dj (which we have seen, but cannot supply in this case), is blurbed by two San Francisco readers: a "former editor of the San Francisco Review," and an erstwhile "assistant to Sir William Osler"
