Cambridge: Hillard and Metcalf, 1810. Hardcover. 431p., hardbound "in full binding" (meaning leatherbound) but rebacked in well-tanned hide, titling and rulings gilt, new headbands; probably mid-twentieth century. Original boards are retained, they are very worn and may have been scorched. Toning and blotchy foxing throughout. Find an ownership signature of one David L. McChord; another note by a J.R. Christian on the front endpaper, in fountain pen, states "This book fell into my hands, I know not how. Should the proper owner see it, he must have it." Hinges reinforced with repair tissue, top and bottom edges may have been sanded, foredge appears untouched. A handleable, readable specimen.
At this time Adams, who later became the sixth US president, was serving as a senator.
