San Francisco: Passenger Department, Southern Pacific Company, . 15.5x21 inch sheet folded into 7.25x5.25 inch packet with text on outside as folded, opening to show a map of San Francisco and several black and white photographs of the city after the earthquake. Evenly toned, short split at ends of two fold creases, generally very good.
A piece of civic boosterism issued in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake, with the map showing that only a small portion of the city actually burned in the great fire and photos demonstrating that large swaths of the city were recovering quickly. Text focuses on the "'You-can't-down-me' confidence" of the city. "...On street corners you can hear nothing else, and the women - bless'em for it - are as cheerful over it as if camping in the city of ashes were the gayest of fashionable fads." Emphasises that the city is now truly one of cooperation and industry, as the prevalent conditions leave no room for the shiftless and idle. Concludes that "We have finished Revelation and now go back to Genesis." There were several versions of this brochure issued, all scarce today.
