Marpha, TX: the author, 1930. Hardcover. 377p., first edition, original wrappers rebound in black leatherette, gilt titles and bands at head and tail, bookmark ribbon bound-in, blank white endpapers replacing the original cover illustration, text in Spanish, very good rebound first edition. In spite of lacking the colorful pictorial covers of the original paper edition this is an attractive copy of a very scarce title.
Gram is the pseudonym of David G. Ramirez, a Mexican priest who lived in San Antonio during the Cristero War for a decade starting around 1925. One of the rarest titles in Mexican American literature because of the imprint. We would not be surprised if the imprint were faked, and the book was actually published in northern Mexico, unlike subsequent editions.
