San Francisco Free Press [seven issues; together with other materials related to the 1994 SF newspaper strike]

San Francisco: Conference of Newspaper Unions, 1994-95. Seven issues of the paper issued by striking writers and other employees of the SF Chronicle, Examiner and local agencies. Tabloid format; issues present include the preview edition, nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5, and two special issues (on single 8.5x11 inch sheets) announcing election results and the end of the strike. Also included is a sheet with lyrics to a parody song, "Hale, Hale, the gang's all here," a mini-poster calling the Chronicle and Examiner "Bad news for workers," and a worn picket sign (the wooden stake removed, leaving staple holes). We are also adding nos. 4 and 5 of the "New Free Press," a follow-up tabloid issued in early 1995 with news on further labor tensions at the papers as well as columns by Ralph Nader, Mumia Abu Jamal and others.

Includes writing by some of the Chron's big names, including Herb Caen and Matier and Ross.
