Reprint of San Francisco Town Journal kept by Leidesdorff, town treasurer and an early mixed-race resident of the city who emigrated from the Caribbean. He was easily the most wealthy resident of San Francisco at that time. Leidesdorff died 2 weeks after this journal ends and shortly before the Gold Rush; his property in Folsom, CA was loaded with gold. He is buried at Mission Dolores, the only African-American interred there.
