London: printed by Humphray Lownes [aka Humfrey Lownes, cf last leaf], 1621. Leather Bound. Extensive unpaginated preliminaries, then 1,215p.; this textblock appears complete, although broken through in the Corona Dedicatoria section of unpaginated leaves. Recased in 11x7.5 inch early to mid-19thC bevelled calf boards with then-new marbled endsheets, replacement blanks of inferior stock, all edges tinted red; while textblock is still sound and square excepting the mentioned detachment, casing and ill-tanned hide have disintegrated. Spine remnants suggest the volume went through fire, hence tinting and perforce a trimming, but margins remain generous. Ex library with minimal internal and no external marks (institutional name in perforation with a few small stamped numerals). Many leaves were long ago re-margined more or less archivally, especially the title page, which is also dust-darkened and partially adhered to its opposite leaf, a blank. Bears one old ownership signature (immature hand) in sepia nib, verso titlepage. Should re-recase quite successfully.
Front cover and preliminaries detached, remains of backstrip floating loose.
