The FBI arrested Yates, California State Secretary of the Communist Party, in Los Angeles on 26 July 1951 for violation of the Smith Act. Her husband filed her candidacy for a seat of the SF Board of Supervisors in early October 1951.This press release protests the cancellation of Yates's campaign broadcast on SF radio stations KGO and KSFO. She urges that people write President Harry Truman to protest "this FBI interference with election rights." Included also is an unsent post card addressed to Truman urging him to lower Yates's bail so that she could conduct her supervisoral campaign.
