n.p. n.pub. . pinback button of 1.75 inches, black text on green background.
Button produced as part of national campaign during the search for the murderer of 28 African American children and young adults between 1979-1981. Because Atlanta police and the FBI made little progress on the case for many months, many across the country wore green buttons and ribbons in 1981 to pressure the authorities to act. A Philadelphia woman took her inspiration to begin the green ribbon and button campaign from the yellow ribbons worn during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. Wayne Bertram Williams was arrested in 1981 and convicted of two of the murders in 1982.
