Early California Mail Bag "This series of keepsakes, distributed to its members by The Book Club of California, 1960, consists of twelve folders and a table of contents. Each folder deals with some phase of California mail during the Gold Rush Period."

San Francisco: The Book Club of California, 1960. Complete boxed set of 12, each a folio sheet of textured paperstock folded once to make a 10x8 inch letterpress brochure, rubricated presswork by the Grabhorns; about 350 words of text each and, laid in, one and sometimes two leaves of blue stock with b&w reproductions of covers and stamps. The set is enclosed in its original quarter-morocco slipcase with raised bands and leather title labels gilt; case is very slightly edgeworn and the upper panel of the spine bears a little white haze of unknown stuff; item remains presentable. All twelve folders have mild marginal toning, except for no.7 which is more toned and has an ownership rubber-stamp, probably a "marriage." Good to very good set, which to judge from other holdings, was issued piecemeal, not every Book Club member collecting or retaining the run.
