Extremities are worn, showing card along the bottom edge of boards, the corner tips, rims top and tail, with further slight snagging at the head. Front pastedown bears a small bookplate from the period, a snippet of text from an old catalog, and old price figures in pencil. Mild scattered foxing. A sound copy with endsheets and blanks intact, hinges good, no starting of signatures.
Son of John Jay, identified with temperance, antislavery and antiwar movements. Served as first judge of Westchester County from 1820-1842, when he was removed on account of his antislavery views.
