San Francisco: Women's Press Project for the Clinic, 1980s. 4 panel brochure on folded tan heavy stock, brief history, staff list with CV, Board on the back panel, mild wear.
Founded in 1980 to respond to the sexism encountered by lesbians when seeking health care and named for women's rights activists Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin. The cover contains a full-page statement from a patient:
"The comment on the health history questionnaire was stark: 'I was having irregular periods,' the anonymous woman wrote, 'and I made an appointment with a doctor I had never seen before. When he asked what kind of birth control I used, I told him I was a lesbian. He said the solution to my problem was to find a man to sleep with.'"
