Hangzhou: Dong fang hong si zhi chang ['East is Red' Silk Factory], [196-?]. 8x11.5 inch pictorial silk hanging designed for wall display, depicting the famous gate with Mao's portrait, pedestrians and a bicyclist in the foreground. Woven in black and white with shades of subtle grey; title on right margin, name and location of factory at bottom left. Very good, an attractive piece suitable for display.
The Dong Fang Hong plant took this name in 1966 under the influence of the Cultural Revolution, and retained it until 1972, thus enabling us to date this piece to a six year period.
