While you're not looking..... The story of the California Yorty contempt talks

San Francisco: State, County and Municipal Workers of America, CIO, [1941]. 11p., wraps, minor browning, some creasing.

Sam Yorky, after breaking with the Community Party, was attacking the union as Communist controlled. He was forcing members to testify and if they refused to answer any questions charging them with contempt and jailing them. This is the union's defense against Yorty's attacks. The union also notes that under the previous governor, Merriam, welfare payments were cut off during the harvest season to force workers to take jobs in the fields at substandard wages and accuses Yorty of working with the farmers organizations.
