Field (author of the narrative poem "Barabbas") lived in San Francisco, California and, as she states in her note to fellow Marxists, was a believer in world revolution. She explains the lack of obvious poetry regarding Marxism or revolution in her 4 page note. While in Portland, Oregon she met and married anarchist Charles Erskine Scott Wood. She was also a major figure in the women's suffrage movement.
