New York: Atheneum, 1972. 254p., first American edition openweave cloth boards gilt in dj; a nice production job, text on calendared paperstock, in not quite collector's condition. Top-edge tint is faded, there is a minute nick in the head exposing a fleck of card, and the dust jacket has some ragged tears and missing chunks that obscure jacket titling. A good, sound, clean carry- to- the- coffee-shop copy.
This particular George MacBeth "is married to a research geneticist and is a producer for the B.B.C. Third Programme." Even more promising than the news that MacBeth has extra-poetical credentials, is his choice of dj blurbs: along with the usual high praise we are relayed several that are gloriously hostile, "wasted talents" and so forth.
