Midwest Academy, founded by Heather Booth and Steve Maxin in 1973 is an Alinsky-based community organizing training institute that nurtured Barack Obama's candidacy for president and continues to, in its own words, "teach an organizing philosophy, methods and skills that enable ordinary people to actively participate in the democratic process"
