Aoki was a specialist working in the National Health Institute's AIDS information Center. He carried out research in the US (at Georgetown University, the VA, and the University of Kentucky) with the purpose of disseminating the most up-to-date and correct information about AIDS to the Japanese populace in an accessible format. One section contains episodes about AIDS taken mainly from the author's experiences in the US and Japan. The book is illustrated with B&W photographs of AIDS treatment and community facilities in Los Angeles.
