Shiokawa was chair of the Ministry of Health's special task force on AIDS. The book provides basic information at a time when dozens of AIDS cases had been reported in Japan. It describes the transmission routes in Japan and US; the world AIDS situation; high risk groups; how to prevent aids; safe sex; testing; treatment; and a section on AIDS in Japan. A large illustrated section presents info on the immune system and AIDS; discussion of human rights of AIDS carriers; how ignorance and prejudice create discrimination; kids with HIV who can't go to school. Last third is a Q&A section. Ends with list of consultation locations and testing services. Illustrated with B&W cartoons summing up key points of advice - e.g. one with a man walking by and showing no interest in injectable drugs, a call girl, and a homosexual liaison, with the caption "The wise man does not court disaster" (from the Confucian classics).
