Social roots of the arts
New York: International Publishers, 1949. Hardcover. 192p., hardbound first issue in dark blue cloth boards and a worn, dirty, badly chipped dust jacket. The book itself is sound but has soiled endpapers, especially the rear ones: otherwise clean and unmarked. A reading copy (jacket, such as it is, kept for its useful texts).
Harap points up Nazi "art criticism"; it was forbidden. The contrast of Third Reich lit with world lit was damning. Hitler's list of 2,000 current German books to be read were largely cookbooks, other instructionals, and flattering appraisals of himself.
