[Los Angeles area]: the newspaper, . 4p., 15x23 inches, quarter-folded newspaper in Thai published by expatriates in LA after the 1976 coup in Thailand. This issue unnumbered, perhaps the first?
Blaring headline (in Thai) "Dr. Puey Exposes Who's Behind Coup d'Etat... Thailand Enters Dark Era!!" B&W photos show slain university students with guard standing watch holding rifle; a now-infamous photo of a policeman nonchalantly shooting a pistol while a cigarette droops from his lips, and a picture of a woman, mostly stripped, who has apparently been raped before execution - incongruously printed on the same page as an ad for Lee's Thai & Chinese Food in Hollywood. Events surrounding the 1976 coup included the invasion of a university campus by rightists, during which numerous students were shot, and the Dr. Puey of the headlines was forced into exile, accused of being a communist.
