In the words of the Daughters of Bilitis SF chapter newsletter for February 1967, "Citizens Alert was formed at the Instigation of the homophile community which called for a coalition of minority groups to deal with problems of police harassment, brutality, intimidation and unequal enforcement of the law." Established in 1965, it was allied with Vanguard and with Glide Memorial Church. This publication includes much on relations with the African American community, and police sweeps of street people in the Haight.
