Something terrible has happened

Harper & Row, New York. 1966, vii, 328p. + foldout map on Honolulu and 16p. photos, first edition, dj . The sensational Massie case exacerbated Asian American-European American relations in the decade before World War II. Honolulu resident Massie accused five Asian American boys of rape. Massie's husband and mother were subsequently accused of murdering one of the defendants, and hired Clarence Darrow for his last great public trial against a background of Hearst demands for 'ethnic cleansing' and a growing rupture between Hawaii's military and civilian governments.
