De la Souchère was studying law, lived in both Barcelona and Madrid while beseiged, gained credibility and ran diplomatic missions for the Republic, helped establish a unit of Spanish and South American volunteers, administered programs for Spanish refugees held under the Vichy regime, then became the director of the press agency for the Republican government in exile. She focuses primarily on the Franco dictatorship in the work, with a chapter on the war.
